The Lily Pad Pavilion is an outdoor space designed for people to enjoy nature. With a large panoramic glass roof with curving walls, the pavilion is a place where nature meets architecture.
Chen designed the Lily Pad where its purpose is to reconnect people with our natural environment. Everyday, many are so busy that we don’t have the time to appreciate our natural surroundings. From office to cafes in the city, our views are blocked by buildings after buildings. Therefore, with the Lily Pad Pavilion, it acts as a hub where people can relax and even sit outside, a hub for appreciating our nature.

The interior of the pavilion is actually sunk into the ground, immersing people down to the earth. With the curvature of the walls, it provides a more spacious interior, while keeping a low profile of the façade.
Chen decided to incorporate a panoramic clear roof, allowing visitors to admire the natural scenery above. The glass roof also provides sunlight into the interior. With the 2 translucent frames near the entrance of the pavilion, it blocks off direct Sothern sun rays, scattering the light.
